Corner View - "In the distance..."

In the distance... hopefully everyone will be paid a "living wage."  This weekend over 1,000 people showed up for a three mile march through Lakeland, Florida to support farmworkers.

On a side note, while we were there, I learned that swans are the city symbol for Lakeland - they even have swans on their trash cans!

Like most (if not all) of the corner-viewers, I love to travel.  Just this weekend, my travel buddy, Debbie, and I met to go over some quotes and itineraries for our next big trip (Thailand and Cambodia - 02/2015).

I got my love of travel from my parents.  We didn't always go far - often we just  took weekend trips to another city or state.  As a result, I've been to almost all 48 of the contiguous U.S. states.

This is one of my favorite travel photos  - me and Dad in London (duh) in 1985.  The quality of the photo is not great, but the memories it generates are.  It was very cold on the Thames that day and after the boat ride, we found a cute Italian restaurant and I had my first (and second) cappuccino.  It was a wonderful vacation and one of the last overseas vacations I took with my parents.

This past weekend was the Florida Herbal Conference, which I have affectionately dubbed Hippie Camp. No phone, computer or television for almost three days.

It was my first time to go, but it won't be my last!  We stayed in a rustic (very rustic) cabin by the water and attended a number of workshops, a couple of plant walks, keynote speeches, and drum circles.

Spending time in nature always makes me feel renewed!

My experiment - to do a juice fast for 10 days.  One of the "requirements" of the fast is to avoid caffeine during the fasting period.  Now, I may have the sense of humor of a 13 year old boy, but I have the body of a 45 year old woman.  On the second day without caffeine, I was absolutely useless.  I laid in bed with no ability - or  desire - to move. I summarize a lot of medical records and I felt the way that people describe severe depression.  Luckily, it only lasted one day or else I would have been mainlining Starbucks on the second day.  It's now day 11 without caffeine and I feel AMAZING.  As for the juicing... I only made it two days.  I'll try again... one day.

And for those keeping tabs - my office only has one kind of decaf coffee and two decaf teas - my choices have decreased immensely!

Happy Corner-Viewing!

p.s.  Thank you all for your kind comments last week.  I am enjoying the new job and have "survived" the 90 day probationary period :-)

I am trying to let 'bygones be bygones' and not hold a grudge against my former employer who laid me off right before the holidays.  I should let go of the grudge as I landed a better job in a better firm.  Aside from the improved quality of work and firm, the new firm has a stocked kitchen for the staff - complete with 13 different kinds of coffee and 7 kinds of hot tea :-)

Saturday morning, thick fog impaired our vision.   (It looks cold, but it was actually quite warm and sticky, muggy.)

By the early afternoon, most of the fog had rolled on and these egrits on the traffic light caught my eye.  (Click on the photo for a better look at these cuties!)
