Corner View - Close By

Corner View is a weekly appointment - each Wednesday - curated by Francesca, where bloggers from all corners of the world share their view on a pre-arranged theme. For those of you "veteran" corner-viewers, you may have gathered that I am a big animal person and usually have multiple dogs.  In January, I lost my Noni. For the first time in nearly 20 years, I only have one dog, my beautiful Chipper.  Chip is over 15 and has some health issues (cancer and bad arthritis).  We probably only have another month - maybe two - together.  Rather than getting sad, I am keeping him "close by" and trying to make what little time we have left together happy for him.  My roommate (his "Auntie Cindy") is spoiling him as well and his grandma has sent him several boxes of homemade dog treats.

Corner View - "In the distance..."

In the distance... hopefully everyone will be paid a "living wage."  This weekend over 1,000 people showed up for a three mile march through Lakeland, Florida to support farmworkers.

On a side note, while we were there, I learned that swans are the city symbol for Lakeland - they even have swans on their trash cans!

CV - Travel

Like most (if not all) of the corner-viewers, I love to travel.  Just this weekend, my travel buddy, Debbie, and I met to go over some quotes and itineraries for our next big trip (Thailand and Cambodia - 02/2015).

I got my love of travel from my parents.  We didn't always go far - often we just  took weekend trips to another city or state.  As a result, I've been to almost all 48 of the contiguous U.S. states.

This is one of my favorite travel photos  - me and Dad in London (duh) in 1985.  The quality of the photo is not great, but the memories it generates are.  It was very cold on the Thames that day and after the boat ride, we found a cute Italian restaurant and I had my first (and second) cappuccino.  It was a wonderful vacation and one of the last overseas vacations I took with my parents.

Corner View - Renewal

This past weekend was the Florida Herbal Conference, which I have affectionately dubbed Hippie Camp. No phone, computer or television for almost three days.

It was my first time to go, but it won't be my last!  We stayed in a rustic (very rustic) cabin by the water and attended a number of workshops, a couple of plant walks, keynote speeches, and drum circles.

Spending time in nature always makes me feel renewed!
