I would like to install one of these in my shower, but I've not been able to find one in the Home Depot or Wal-Mart.  Maybe Ikea has one??

Well, I remembered to take photos too late... but this is my Friday night class.  We were all in attendance to study this book:

Fellow students, Danny and  Paolo, posed with the book as I had forgotten to take a photo while class was still in session.

And a few stragglers ...

And, completely off topic - may I introduce my new pup, Annie Gertrude.

Doors

An open door says, “Come in.”
A shut door says, “Who are you?”
Shadows and ghosts go through shut doors.
If a door is shut and you want it shut,
     why open it?
If a door is open and you want it open,
     why shut it?
Doors forget but only doors know what it is
     doors forget.

                        By Carl Sandburg

I spent last week with family who welcomed me with open arms and open doors.  Father Winter opened his doors as well and we had a white Thanksgiving.

However, all good things must come to an end and no matter how much fun you had, when you are 464.8 miles into a 675 mile return trip...
...you are very happy to be welcomed back to your home state.

My home is very colorful... I may have mentioned this a time or two... The one connecting color is red.  I have a little red in every room:

As I could not pick "one" book, I cannot pick "one" song.  However, each section of my life is punctuated by a song in my head.

When I was very young, my favorite song was "Julie, do you love me?" by Bobby Sherman.  In fact, I named my first dog Julie.

When I was a little older, I developed a crush on Andy Gibb.  I knew every word to "I just want to be your everything" and even made up a  dance to it with my best friend at the time, Jane.

In high school, music was very important and I prized my album and cassette collection almost as much as my shoes and earring "collections."  When Men Without Hats came out with "Safety Dance" I had it written on virtually every hard surface in my bedroom and bathroom.  (I used paint pens and am still surprised that I was allowed to live past writing it on the furniture...)  At the time, I had no idea that it was a protest song against nuclear weapons.  I just thought it was cool.  However, to quell any teenaged angst, I would blast the Violent Femmes' "Blister in the Sun."  (If I could hear myself screaming the lyrics, it was not loud enough!)

As for the university years, my musical standard was the stranger the better.  Hence a love for bands with names like the Dead Kennedys, Let's Active, The Dead Milkmen, Camper Van Beethoven, 10,000 Maniacs...

These days, my tastes are more tame.  The one song I sing the most is "Rag Doll."  I sing it to my ginger cat, Harry, as he is like a rag doll.  You can flop him around like he has no bones.  Such a sweet boy!

I color my hair...

I take long, relaxing bubble baths...
I meditate...

... or, if I am not in the mood for quiet contemplation...  I crank the music up and dance around the living room in my undies to my favorite 80s tunes...

I love to read and I like "real" books, not e-books.  My all time favorite book is The Magus by John Fowles.  My favorite writer is Thomas Hardy with a second place mention going to Ken Follett.  This is my "to read" stash.  The yellow bag contains books on loan from my eldest sister.  The top two books on the nightstand are library books on Bonnie and Clyde. (Clearly, I had nothing to read, so I had to go to the library...)

This is the book with whom I've spent the most time.   It is the book that we are studying in my Kadampa Buddhist Class.  The book is about 350pp and we have been studying it since February and are not even to page 120, yet.

And this is completely off topic, but we had a cold snap this weekend.  Maggie and I snuggled up and watched "Chick Flicks" together.  She has settled in so nicely that you would think that she had lived here her whole life and not spent the last 12 years in a shelter.  We are going to Tennessee for Thanksgiving week and I will be adopting another dog, Annie, while we are there.  Annie is a rescue, too, and I hope she doesn't wreak too much havoc in our peaceful home!

Well, I have better photos of Thanksgiving... but, of course, I can't find them now that I need them. Having said that, our family holiday tradition is to spend Thanksgiving together at my parents' house. This year will be different, however.  Mom had a quadruple bypass at the end of August.  (She is doing amazingly well.)  So, my oldest niece, Lauren, will be hosting this year.  Here are some previous Thanksgivings:

1994, Tuscaloosa, AL

1996, Tuscaloosa, AL

2010, Monterey, TN - Mom with her great grandson, Zalyn; my oldest sister, Sandy, and oldest niece, Lauren, doing the dishes after the feast; my great-niece, McKayla, wearing more food than she's eating.

I like to have fun with my hair color, but as I work in a conservative environment, I can't go too crazy.  However, some days my color is "stranger" than others.  In my quest to find cruelty-free products, I've discovered henna... and a very loud orange!

I love the "spooky" look of the Spanish moss on the oak trees at night.

And, of course, I have to add pet photo!  So, here is Pippa whose dark coat covers a lightness of spirit.

And on an unrelated, but wonderful topic, look what else I have...

My very own Susanna 'Susi-Art' Redeker!  Thank you, Susi, I love it!

My inner child is more of an "outer" child.  Here's what I am working on now.  Note that the pattern says it "will jazz up a child's nursery."  However, I am making it for ME.

Happy corner-viewing!  And happy Summer!

I'll see you all in the Fall.

p.s. I got an A in my first class.  I guess there's still some hope for me, yet :-)

When you have 4 kittens, every night when you get home, you have to "re-place" your belongings.  (Yes. FOUR.  Mama Cat had three kittens that I adopted. She then proceeded to adopt a "stray" kitten of her own.  Yes, my can adopted a cat.... only in my house.)

Last year, someone gave me an orchid.  Once the flower was gone, I neglected the poor thing.   I placed it on a windowsill and forgot about it - rarely even thinking to water it.  Several times I came close to dumping it in the composter... then last week I realized it had a flower!

I am very close to my parents, but sadly we don't live close.  (It's a 14 hour drive.)  As we don't get to see each other often, we are forever sending boxes of things back and forth.  This week's parcel:

What is in the kitten mugs, you ask?  New panties.  Only my mother would send me mugs of panties :-)  (Of course, one of my packages to them included a baggy of dog hair to break in their new sofa as they don't have any pets.  My mom glued it to a card and made a dog hair panda bear  and returned it to me in my next package.  I guess the apple didn't fall far from the tree.)

I love getting the boxes.  I never know what "surprise" lurks inside, but I know that whatever it is will make me smile.

I am a compulsive collector.   One of my favorite collections is my china.  This is just a small sample of the collection.  Sadly, most is behind cabinet doors at the moment.
