Last week was a rough one.  Work is nuts and by the end of the week, I was a little stressed.  In my aggravation of dealing with the paralegal for opposing counsel in one of our cases, I lost it.  I put in writing (by email) how I appreciated (note the sarcasm) his professional courtesy, which I don't suppose was very professional on my side.  To make matters worse, I copied both of our bosses on it.  While my boss will surely agree with me regarding his behaviour, I don't know if she'll be too happy that I put it in writing... I am generally an easy-going happy person, but once I'm ticked off, I have a short fuse and a nasty temper... So, I took out my angry energy on my yard.

Ten yard bags and a bin full of yard rubbish and I am feeling better!  Not a bad use of a Saturday afternoon.  Now, I 'm off to pick up Thai takeout (Tofu Panang - yum) and plan to spend the evening in watching movies with a pot of herb tea, pets and cross-stitch.

CV - January

January in Orlando is a strange month.  It can get cold - it's gotten to the freezing mark twice this month already.  It can get hot.  It's in the high 70s and low 80s this week.  When the weather fluctuates that much, you have to take advantage of the warm as you know it won't last. So I met my girlfriends for lunch at Cantina (on the right) and we sat outside and soaked up the sunshine.  Needless to say, it was hard to get motivated to go back to work!

Corner View - Black and White

I am going for the literal definition of black and white and sharing one of my most valuable (sentimental-wise, not $$-wise) belongings, which happens to be black and white.  Meet Doodles:

My late, great Uncle Herb gave me Doodles the last time I saw him when I was 20.    Uncle Herb was actually my uncle by marriage, not a blood relative.  When my great Aunt Mable passed away, Uncle Herb continued sending birthday and Christmas gifts to us.  The gifts were always girly, but not always age appropriate.  Still, that made them more special.  I could picture my aging uncle searching the local shops for something that a little girl would like and then taking the time to wrap it up and send it overseas.  I always felt a special kinship to Uncle Herb, even though I rarely saw him in person.  He lived in Bristol, England and did not travel overseas.  The last time time I saw him, he was almost 90 and living in an assisted living facility.  He wanted to give me a present, but was no longer able to get to the shops on his own.  He disappeared into his bedroom and came out with Doodles, loosely wrapped in tissue paper.  I also remember his daughter and son-in-law laughing cruelly at his gift and I hope that he did not hear them.  I hope he only heard me and my friend, Mary, gush over it.  We both cried.  It was a sweet moment despite the insensitivity of the other two.

Productive Holiday Weekend

As this was my last long, holiday weekend until May 28th... which I probably won't be able to take anyway as we have a big out-of-town trial set for June 4th, I decided that I should make the most of it.  So, I...

Volunteered at the Highland Games... A great way to kick off the weekend - ogling 100s of men in kilts...

Had brunch at my favorite local restaurant, Ethos Vegan Kitchen, with a good friend... and forgot to take a "before" photo of the food as we were too busy yapping... Use your imagination to picture a lovely tofu scramble with sausage and grits on my plate and yummy-looking chocolate chip pancakes on hers...

Took a beginner's crochet class at a local craft shop...

Got in a little cross-stitching...

Took Will to get her "spay" stitches out...

Finished summarizing a big stack of medical records for work and drafted 7 subpoenas duces tecum...

Finished all 6 chairs... for the padding, I bought a queen-sized, foam mattress topper at a dollar store - much cheaper than upholstery padding and worked just as well...

Now, I am too tired to go into the office in the morning.  I wonder if I should call in sick so I can recover from the weekend?

Corner View - Out with the old and in with the new...

Well, I had hoped to have these finished by now... My goal for 2012 is to complete projects that have been on my "to do" list much too long.  For example, I bought the fabric to recover these chairs about 4 years ago and I am just now getting around to re-doing them.  Hopefully, by the next corner view I will have six completed chairs and can move on to the patio and dangling "white trash" screen!

p.s. If you think the chairs are loud now, wait until I get the seats on with the new fabric :-)

Happy 2012 to you all!

Meet Noni

Noni is a foster dog who is staying with us until she finds a home.  If you know anyone in the Central Florida area looking for a dog, please mention Noni.  She is a lab mix, housebroken and a pure delight to have around.  She is good with other dogs as well as cats.

I Spy - Z

“I Spy” is a weekly appointment - each Monday - created by Lete.  If you'd like to join in, please leave a link to your “I Spy” post in the comments at http://www.okiemmym.pl/.

I spy with my little eye - my great-nephew Zalyn.  (Confession - I was not pleased when my niece named him Zalyn, but his name came in handy when I needed a "Z" for eye spy.  And I just call him "Z" anyway.)
