Corner View - "In the distance..."

Corner View is a weekly appointment - each Wednesday - curated by Francesca, where bloggers from all corners of the world share their view on a pre-arranged theme. If you'd like to join in, please leave a link to your Corner View post in the comments at www.fuoriborgo.com, and be sure to visit other participants, too.

In the distance... hopefully everyone will be paid a "living wage."  This weekend over 1,000 people showed up for a three mile march through Lakeland, Florida to support farmworkers.

On a side note, while we were there, I learned that swans are the city symbol for Lakeland - they even have swans on their trash cans!

Happy corner-viewing!

  1. i'm glad so many people showed up, and feel for the difficulties of those who work to make food for us!

  2. Farmworkers should be the highest paid people in the world right now!
I hope the march was a success for it to happen in the not too distant futures. The swans are radiant, and Florida does look like its name , a lot of sunshine in the photos!!

  3. How sad that farmers, who are at the beginning of our food chain, get the short end of the stick at the end of it.

  4. The lack of a living wage is something that really needs to be addressed, for the farm workers who provide us with the food we eat and for workers in other fields as well. I'm glad there was such a good turnout!

  5. This is good! And that must have been a good feeling to be there.

  6. I'm so glad to hear that people are supporting the right of workers to earn a living wage. We are having the same issues here in NZ right now - unfortunately our current Government refuses to even raise the minimum wage (which is very low here) let alone move towards a living wage.

  7. Fairness for all. Awesome goal.
Love the swans---reminded me of all the pigs throughout Cincinnati(it was once the pork capital).

  9. Oh, my heart sores when I see those scores of people, protesting! Such a POSITIVE sign!

(Indeed, as Susanna mentions, the Dutch are not up for much protesting. We do our best in our corner of the Netherlands, against the mining of natural gas which is causing more and more earthquakes, but haven't reached that amount of people yet.)

  10. love the swans! we have two black swans that swim in the lake by our house. they are just lovely! a while back they had babies! that was so much fun. the babies are not there now though, i wonder if baby swans go find someplace else to live when they grow up and not something more sinister!
