If you’ve ever wondered who buys those silly “at night” postcards, now you know – my parents and I do. We’ve an odd sense of humor… It all started when I was a teenager as a joke. I don’t remember who bought the first one, but it became a tradition. This is just a small sampling of my vast collection. I probably have in excess of two hundred. I can’t bear to part with them. (I wonder if my parents still have the ones I’ve sent over the years. I’ll have to ask.)
As silly as these postcards are, I enjoyed re-reading the messages in my mother's tiny neat handwriting with an occasional jot by my father. It was even fun looking at the addresses and remembering where I was and who I was at the time I received the postcards.
And to brighten things up, some photos for Swig. When I said my taste is LOUD, I wasn't exaggerating. Put on your sunglasses!
all those night postcard!! so you are the person who buys them!!
ReplyDeletewhat a lovely house, warm colors!
i think those black out cards are hilarious. your home is very colorful - lovely.
ReplyDeletehaving a hard time leaving comments on blogger blogs - is my comment there?
ReplyDeletehmm, I guess not! I wrote that your taste isn't loud, just colorful - and that you and your parents have started a lovely tradition.
ReplyDeleteThank you!!! perfect colorful walls for your night postcard collection!
ReplyDeleteso now we know... although i feel tempted sometimes to send just such a silly card...

That is funny !
ReplyDeleteI never heard of the "At Night" postcards but I LOVE the idea! Maybe I'll start a new collection :)
ReplyDeleteCool postcards. I've never seen them before, but I like them so much.
ReplyDeleteYou must have a great collection.
Ah, the night cards. I knew there were other people who saw the fun in them too...
ReplyDeleteI have never seen the night cards before. What a unique collection to remind you of family and thus cherish! Cool! :>)
ReplyDeleteI love the glimpses of your home! I was curious too about the inside. The bright colors are wonderful--I mean that! That's got to a fun, upbeat place to live!
Your kitchen would beckon me to cook in it. Mine is too dark. I like the star-like handles of the cabinets and the sunshine yellow of them.
However, my favorite is that pinkish coral wall with the colorful photos and pottery. It's perky and soothing at the same time.
Do you dress a bit quirky also?
I didn't know these sort of poscards. Funny :)
ReplyDeleteThe Toronto at Ntght postcard reminds of the classic 4 seasons of England/Scotland postcard: the joke being its the same picture/cartoon repeated 4x, a sheep on a hill in a downpour with grey clouds.
ReplyDeleteIt's great to have the collection with the messages on them.
