a good book... these are my planned 2013 reads...

Julie and Julia Challenge

This week, once again, I did not follow the challenge "rules" and make something from 125 book.  On Friday, I went to a fabulous raw food restaurant in Winter Park, Cafe 118 Degrees.  Inspired, I pulled out my raw cookbook, Going Raw by Juditha Wignall and finally made the Green Energy Soup that I've been meaning to make for months now.  I promise it won't be months before I make it again  It's wonderful!  I took it to work yesterday and today for lunch. (And ate it on the deck outside as the weather has been beautiful.)  It's filling and really does give you more energy.

Julie and Julia Challenge

Last weekend, I made Pasta Puttanesca from 125 Best Vegan Recipes.  I did not care much for this dish and I don't know why.  I like all of the ingredients and they go together normally, but I didn't care for them in this configuration.  The leftovers went to the dogs, they didn't even like it much.  They eventually ate it, but it sat in the bowls for a couple of hours before they ate it all.   Needless to say, I will NOT be making this one again.

This week, I did not follow the challenge "rules" and make something from 125 book.  I wanted to make cupcakes for a friend at work whose house got broken into Friday.  I used the "My Favorite Cupcakes" recipe from Alicia Silverstone's wonderful book, The Kind Diet.  As they were a gift, I felt obligated to taste one (or four) for quality control.  They are delicious!  And the frosting... OMG! I will definitely be making these again.  As a bonus, they were very easy to make!  Anyhow, I hope Fran likes her "You-were-robbed-and-that-sucks" Cupcakes, which is my name for them.

Here is a beautiful glass statue by the artist Dale Chihuly.  It's on display at the Orlando Museum of Art where Debbie (pictured) and I went last week for a cocktail party.  The photo is bad, but the glass statue is breathtakingly beautiful.  I would love it in my house... well, as long as I could pay someone else to dust it!

Happy new year and happy corner viewing!

Julie and Julia Challenge

Well, I've not done well with my challenge to make a recipe a week from the 125 Best Vegan Recipes cookbook... and then the last two items were made some time ago and I am just now posting...

Christmas day was spent with three friends.  We went out for lunch and then to see Les Miserables.  (It's wonderful, but be sure to take a hanky!)  Anyhow, I tell you this as I made each of them (and myself) a loaf of Cranberry Nut Bread.  On its own, it was very dry, but heated and with vegan butter... it was very good.

Last week, I made Polenta with Eggplant and Sun-Dried Tomatoes.   It doesn't look like much, but this is hands down my favorite so far.  It was good freshly made and equally good re-heated.  I had enough to take to work for lunch for a couple of days.  I am definitely making this again!

So, I decided not to go back and count how many weeks I am behind on this project...  However, at this rate, I won't make the 125th recipe until my 125th birthday!
